I frequent Yuji’s Japanese Tapas (or as my dear friend Louisa contracts it: japas) on Fourth Ave. for many reasons. Why, there’s the fact that the waiter is so damn cheerful and fantastic and attentive. There’s the awesome umeshu, or plum wine ($4) on the rocks that is to your meal what pickled ginger is to sushi: a perfect way to cap the glorious taste sensation. Then there’s the creative and ever-changing weekly menu on which I’ve never gone wrong. Not to mention their fantastic sushi.
But most recently, most of all, I love Yuju’s for it’s Kiwi roll ($5.50). It’s a riot in your mouth, in the best way possible: scallop, cucumber & mayo topped with kiwi. Just look!
Here is what you get: Tang from the kiwi; Sweet from the scallop; Salt from the soy; Glorious glorious glorious. I suspect I will be craving this sucker on a semi-regular basis from now on. Dammit.
