I am sure that you, like me, need to read nothing more about twitter, ever again. But microblogging is here to stay and it is as useful for some things as it is useless for others.
Enter Marueen Evens, the inventor of the “twecipe.” The 27 year old BC woman studying in Belfast, covered in a recent new york times article, has developed an impressive ability to condense a recipe into 140 characters or less. Published through her twitter accounts @cookbook and @Maureen, she has earned over 13,000 followers and increasing attention from the twitter-happy press.
Examples of her work:
Strudel Pastry: cut 2T butter/1c flour/mash tater. Knead w 2t yeast/2T h2o; rise 1h. On flour cloth gently pull 17×25″; trim-1″/butter well.
Radish Soup: saute 2c radish/6T butter. Whisk+4T flour; +c whtwine&cream/3c milk. Puree. Simmer15m+bay/wht pep&salt. Srv hot or cold w dill.
New Eggplant Parmesan: cvr3tom/s+p/3T wine@low7m; puree. Slice/oil2eggplant; 15m@400F/205C. Dip w egg/crumb&s+p. Broil+c parm. Srv on puree.
While appreciating the puzzle-like challenge of creating and comprehending these twecipes, (and indeed there is now a twecipe challenge at the NYT) I have a hard time understanding why this is anything other than yet more irrational exuberance for twitter. A 140 character recipe sounds like an advil-inducing nightmare to me, so I will stick with sites like nibbledish.com.
