The Tomato Fresh Food Cafe is a Cambie street classic that relocated to Kitsilano. It has a very clean interior and opens out onto a nice patio that has quickly become my brunch go-to. A great neighborhood spot, the menu is filled with fresh, organic comfort food. It can be busy on the weekend, but I have always managed to be seated in short order. The service is attentive and the food is uncomplicated and delicious. The Tomato benny has a light hollandaise with citrus flair, with poached free-run eggs, served on an English muffin with European back bacon and a side of country style potatoes. The Tomato style omelet is made with tomatoes, Monterrey Jack, Parmesan and copious fresh basel; the flavor profile is not unlike a caprese salad and just as delicious. Their sandwiches are excellent on fresh toasted bread, the portabello sandwich is shown here. I have yet to try their dinner menu, but it boasts such items as the Westcoaster Salad with Indian candied Salmon ($15) and Bouillabaisse du Pacifique ($26) along with meatier braised lamb shanks. ($24) If you are looking for a neighborhood cafe in the heart of Kits, Tomato has you covered.
