Since 1940, Gourmet Magazine has been one of the biggest names in food. A 180-strong team run by editor Ruth Reichl, Gourmet got the chop today with the announcement that Condé Nast will close it down, without warning, along with some other publications that no one I know cares about (namely Cookie, Modern Bride and Elegant Bride). This news has the twitterverse popping, with mock acquisition offers, shock, disgust, and rebellious comments against the saved (presumably cheaper) lesser publication, Bon Appétit.  Also avoiding the hatchet was Conde Nast-owned website Epicurious.com.
