People who know nothing about Mexican food are always saying that there is amazing Mexican food in Vancouver. With a few marked exceptions, I have never found this to be the case. Until now.
La Taqueria, pinche taco shop, recently moved into the West Hastings space vacated by the ever-growing Nuba. With a sense of humour and authentic mexican flavors, La Taqueria has instantly become the best taco shop in Vancouver. And you should know, pinche in Spanish means fucking. And when they say fucking they mean fucking good.
Slammed busy since opening, La Taqueria offers some casual seating space and is just as busy as Nuba was. You may have to wait, but they are serious about getting the tacos out fast and it is a good atmosphere.
Choices of taco include a fantastic selection of favorites, ours include al pastor (pork), chicken mole, arrachera (beef), arsada (beef). 4 tacos will cost you $9.95 and I am always wishing I had 6, but if you heap some jalapenos and some of their amazing salsas, you should be full enough. Tacos are served on two small, round white corn tortillas. And I am convinced you get more food if you eat in, because they aren’t fitting them folded into a container. (pictured)
There are vegetarian options, specials, mexican soft drinks and fresh rice milk. You can even pick up a puck of marzapan for $1. To disclose fully, I am completely addicted. So I suggest you stop reading this right now and go eat some pinche tacos. Right now!

Love your blog! We seem to have similar taste in restos. One thing, though: the tortillas at La Taqueria ARE corn, just white corn, which seems quite “authentic” at least to me.

thanks for the correction! for corn tortillas they are very gummy and tasteless, there is no corn taste and i would not want to eat one on its own. that is the mark of a decent tortilla in my opinion, but maybe i have been spoiled by access to handmade corn tortillas..
