A couple weekends ago I got into some delicious sherry at Judas goat, an under-rated fortified wine undergoing a big revival of late. Which is exactly what I needed the day after. A cautionary tale: sherry is for the end of the evening, not the middle.

Pre-dinner cocktails at L’Abattoir (it happens). The meathook and the newly created “Last Fury,” an attractive mix of Gin, yellow Chartreuse, sparkling wine, lime (as per Miss Fury’s memory).

Bottoms Up!

I got this cheeky message at the bottom of my beer glass at Sea Monstr Sushi in Gastown. They are the first restaurant in Canada to adopt the bottoms up system, which fills special beer glasses from the bottom via a magnetic seal. This makes pouring fast and eliminates many of the foam issues associated with cask beer. Unfortunately the glasses are plastic, but I was told glass ones are on order, with branded magnets. This all sounded great until on one visit I got multiple glasses that leaked. When that happens you start wondering who’s idea it was to put a hole in the bottom of a beer glass. I will be back to test them out again. Someone has to do it!

Ask Mr Layton for something special, and you never know what you will get. This drink made me feel like a pirate in late December, all I remember is that it was delicious!

Who isn’t drawn in by a gorgeous wine label? Whether it makes sense or not, I’m a complete sucker for them. Thecoolist has 30 labels worth drooling over, let’s hope the vintage can back it up.
