Founded in 1995 as a partnership of the Frescobaldi family, who have been in the wine business for more than 700 years, and America’s Mondavi family, Luce has taken its Super Tuscan wines to the apex of Italian winemaking. Their signature Luce is an almost opaque wine of velvet-textured weight that shows a dry, prolonged finish.

An impressive collection of Luce wines will be presented throughout the evening, including: Attems Pinot Grigio 2008, 2006 Lucente (91 points Wine Spectator, Gold Medal Winner, Sommelier Wine Awards, London May 2009), 2006 Luce (94 points WS), 2005 Luce (93 points WS), 2003 Luce (92 points WS), and 2001 Luce (92 points WS), and Luce Grappa.

Giorgio Rivetti, Proprietor/Winemaker

La Spinetta, meaning “top of the hill”, is one of the greatest wine producers in Italy and Giorgio Rivetti is one of Italy’s most engaging and dynamic wine personalities. La Spinetta is a true modernist, producing age worthy wines, yet extremely approachable and explosively aromatic in their youth. Established only in 1977, La Spinetta has taken Piedmont by storm, from elite Moscato producer to creating what Robert Parker has called the best Barbera ever made to some of the most exotic Barbarescos and Barolos you will taste. In fact, La Spinetta is one of only two estates to receive 3 stars in the 20 year existence of Italy’s top wine journal, Gambero Rosso, signifying that they have achieved over 30 Tre Bicchieri awards, Italy’s top honour.

The evening will showcase a phenomenal selection of La Spinetta’s wines, including: Lidia Chardonnay 2006, Barbera Gallina 2004, Barbaresco Starderi Ris 2004, Barbaresco Starderi 1999, Barolo Campe 2004, and Moscato Bricco Quaglia 2008.

What is the West Coast Chocolate Festival?

The West Coast Chocolate Festival—first launched in 2002— is a unique and innovative collection of individual events occurring throughout the TriCity area of Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam. Our various high calibre chocolate-themed adult and all-ages events celebrate the magic of chocolate and appeal to the senses and the soul, attracting guests from surrounding cities, the BC Lower Mainland and beyond. With chocolate as a powerful draw, we leverage events to bring people of all ages and cultures together as well as aim to raise awareness about proper consumption and the lesser-known positive benefits of the incredibly appealing food.

What events take place throughout the festival?

Each year the festival runs, events offered may be repeated from past years or introduced as new features. Various events run in the past include:

Alcohol and Chocolate Pairing Events — these high calibre adult events offer sophisticated pairings which combine chocolate and either beer, wine, or scotch. They are MC’d by a festival representative but led by an experienced sommelier or connoisseur from a sponsoring chocolate company such as Rogers, Denman Island, or Lindt. Events usually include at least three different pairings to sample, include performances by local talent is a feature, and run for approximately 2.5 hours.

Chicks and Chocolate — a popular event geared towards women featuring live entertainment, vendor booths, food and beverages, as well as exciting highlights such as dance demonstrations and fashion shows has evolved into a Salon du Chocolate – entertaining, enlightening, sampling, and evening of tastings, and scope of the festival.

Chocolate-chip Pancake Breakfast — a less-costly option geared towards all ages, this event includes Willy Wonka-themed activities, live musical performances, and of course, a delicious buffet-style pancake breakfast.

School of Chocolate — an informative all-ages presentation led by a festival volunteer educating the audience about the origins, health benefits, and proper etiquette for chocolate. Can be interactive and include chocolate sampling as well as some audience involvement.

$65

Blasted Church is not only known for their original and eye-catching graphic labels, but also the quality wine at reasonable prices they put into the bottles. Their wide range of wines are all made from estate grown fruit from vineyards located in the southern reach of British Columbia’s fertile Okanagan Valley, only an 8 minute drive from Penticton. The property clings to scenic elevated bench on the east side of Skaha Lake and has been growing fruit for close to two decades.

We are excited to welcome a fantastic winery with a large cult following to Salt Cellar.

This event will take place along the backdrop of Salt Cellar’s 1000–bottle wine cooler, in an intimate setting that will include hand-crafted charcuterie from local producers such as J, N & Z Deli, Moccia’s, and Oyama Sausage Company, along with artisan cheeses from Neal’s Yard (UK), Italy, Spain, and British Columbia.

Tickets are $65, which includes all food, wines, taxes and gratuity! Visit our Cellar Events page for tickets!

Come to Agassiz (8km from Harrison Hot springs) on Saturday, August 9th to participate in a self-guided bicycle ride following the popular Circle Farm Tour. Embark on a leisurely cycle and learn more about local food production. Riding your bicycle, you will get to experience and taste local food products produced close to home, while getting to know and supporting your local farmers.

Inspired by the success of Slow Food Cycle Sunday Pemberton and the popular Circle Farm Tour, SLOW FOOD Vancouver and the farmers of Agassiz are hosting this culinary adventure that will explore ten farms. Some farms will be open to the public for this day only. For example, you will have a rare glimpse of a large commercial dairy farm, and visit a sustainable land-based salmon farm. You’ll also visit a farm that grows 20 different varieties of garlic and another that makes unique artisan cheeses.

Many stops will feature special events, guided tours around specialty farms, and gourmet foods prepared with crops from Agassiz producers to sample and purchase.
