Playing with the iphone app Paper Camera, right before guzzling Rob Roys, and scarfing their excellent burger. Paper Camera is the best $0.99 you can spend, worth one sip of cocktail.
I have never reviewed the Acme Cafe as it features prominently on my bias list, and frankly, I like it too much. I don’t want more people to go there, it is difficult enough to get a seat on weekends as it is. I usually go for dinner, but I will admit brunch is delicious [...]
One of the highlights on the new Pourhouse menu is the $17 burger, a mix of ground chuck steak and brisket. Simple and delicious, served with a bag of fries, this burger will go with just about anything you want to drink. Which, in my case, is lots of everything.
Pre-dinner cocktails at L’Abattoir (it happens). The meathook and the newly created “Last Fury,” an attractive mix of Gin, yellow Chartreuse, sparkling wine, lime (as per Miss Fury’s memory).
I reviewed L’Abattoir on opening night last year and have been back many times since for fine cocktails and cuisine. Featured are some iphone photos taken while trying out some new dishes last weekend. The pan fried lamb sweetbreads with veal tongue sauce gribiche ($14) was delicious (and I keep thinking about it). Pacific halibut [...]

They are the first restaurant in Canada to adopt the bottoms up system, which fills special beer glasses from the bottom via a magnetic seal. This makes pouring fast and eliminates many of the foam issues associated [...]
Continuing my iphone tilt-shift theme (and I may just be getting started) is the incomparable Acme Cafe. I enjoyed a roast beef sandwich, the soup of the day and a big piece of Grand Marnier Latte pie.
Trying out a tilt-shift photography app on iphone last night. Pictured is Tako Wasabi @ Guu Gastown.
